Sukatha of a Yoga Teacher: Natalie
सुकथा Sukatha of a Yoga Teacher: Natalie
Sukatha means beautiful story, meet Natalie, a recent Yoga Teacher Trainee, this is her sukatha!
I have been practicing yoga on and off for close to 10 years now. I seriously began to deepen my practice three years ago. A lot of my prior practice was bouncing in and around studios as I could afford. Being a single mom to 2 boys yoga didn’t always present itself as the most accessible time wise or financially. I did a lot of YouTube practice and home practice, learning and discovering myself.
Fast forward to 3 years ago, I began to make practice my priority. Going from randomly going to a studio to making it to a studio whenever possible. I truly believe you can practice your yoga on and off your mat absolutely anywhere but there is something magical about that group and studio experience. As a fitness junky with a background in personal training and all things gym rat I was introduced to a sweaty power flow on a Friday morning in October of 2014. It was the most physically, mentally and emotionally challenging hour of my life and I was done. Since then I have practiced a minimum of 15 minutes DAILY. Whether is was one pose, stretching and winding down before bed or a 3 hour asana practice. Yoga became my life.
Yoga saved my life.
Being a closed off, cold hearted, resentful and paranoid individual yoga has taught me so much more than how to touch my toes or stand on my head. Yoga has taught me to trust, feel, love and accept. I quickly knew I wanted to dive deeper into this and that I wanted to share this with others, specifically making it accessible to those like me that couldn’t afford high end studios but wanted to practice.
I found K10Yoga’s Yoga Teacher Training program 2 years before I jumped. I contacted Kristen in the Spring of 2016 expressing interest, she quickly responded to all of my questions and was more than willing to help me and work with me. The timing was not in the stars at that time so I continued on. In the fall of 2016 she reached out letting me know that it was coming again. My encouraging and yogi boyfriend encouraged me to jump, follow my heart and do it! So I did.
Through that program first of all I met such an amazing and diverse group of ladies I am forever tied to. Secondly, it is astounding the progress my practice made in 4 short months both physically, emotionally and spiritually. Thirdly, it gave me the courage to truly follow my heart, put my passion out there, own this, love this, and do this. During Yoga Teacher Training I became a full time fitness entrepreneur both through my personal training (from a holistic view point) and I love every day waking up with a smile on my face truly feeling like I matter, I am making a difference and I have something important to share. I am now a full-time teacher in Winston Salem, NC, Mount Airy, NC and Knoxville, TN. I am traveling, teaching, completely humbled and blissed out. It’s not cliche at all to say yoga can change your life. Yoga created my life, started my fire and helped me truly discover who I am inside and out.
