The Embody Love Movement

In 2016, I stepped into a Facilitator Training with the Embody Love Movement and everything shifted. The message that founder, Dr. Melody Moore, offered went straight to my heart and I knew this work needed to be added to the K10Yoga Model. After hosting workshops in Winston Salem, NC I went on to become a Facilitator Trainer, working with Melody directly and then added the Embody Love work into my Yoga Teacher Training Programs.

What is the Embody Love Movement?

The Embody Love Movement was founded by Dr. Melody Moore from a Springboard project with Off the Mat, Into the World and CTZN Well. As a therapist, Dr. Moore has had the unique experience of recognizing that as long as one measures their lovability by their external appearance, their capacity to accept who they are, how they feel, and why they are here will remain elusive. Instead of pathologizing clients in recovery, she trusted that their woulds were also their greatest potential offerings, and created the workshops of Embody Love Movement in order to offer others a way to be of service from a place of recovery and integration.

Melody has a vision for the world where all girls and women recognize their inherent worth and value, and see their contribution to the interdependent whole as necessary. She believes that small groups of women can do powerful things, and that each of us has a responsibility to do the inner work necessary to create the world we want to live in. Her vision for Embody Love Movement is to continue to train and empower others to awaken the girls and women in their communities to celebrate their inner beauty, commit to kindness, and contribute to meaningful change in the world.

On a personal note, I was looking back through old slides recently and found this amazing shot of my grandfather. He was so proud of the work he had done on the farm that day and you could see it on his face. Then there was me, half dyed hair and this look on my face that could kill. That girl was so unfamiliar with herself, she was just learning what life was like as a teenager and could find more value in being lazy and talking on the phone than helping her grandfather at the family farm. The image brings tears to my eyes today, it is the essence of why I continue my involvement with Embody Love. I hope that through this work, that in 20 years other girls wont look back on photos with their loved ones and feel sorrow for ‘ruining’ the photo. Instead, they will find love and understanding within themselves at a younger age so that they can embody love everywhere they go and with everyone they meet. That they no longer let the media tell them how to look or how to act and to embed confusion in an already confusing time of their lives. I believe 100% that the universe conspired to put all of these pieces into place. I look at that photo now and I smile, finding gratitude in the work it has now ushered me into. I am grateful.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in hosting an Embody Love Movement workshop, please reach out! There are a number of facilitators in North Carolina now that I can connect you with, myself included. Together we can change the way women and girls view themselves, we can begin to live from a place of embodied love and acceptance and let that energy embrace those around us. Together, we can contribute to meaningful change in the world!
